The Alpha-1 Coded Testing (ACT) Study offers free and confidential finger stick testing for
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. The test can be completed at home and results are mailed to the participant's home.
The test is administered through a research study which evaluates perceived risks and benefits of genetic testing,
as well as correlations between genes and diseases. Tests may
be requested for yourself, your spouse, and/or your minor (under age
18) children. Participants or the participant's guardian must sign a consent form, fill in a questionnaire, and allow for recontact in the future. Full details are available in the consent form.
This program established by the Alpha-1 Foundation is headquartered at the Alpha-1 Research Registry at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
For more information, or if you have questions, please email the ACT Study Coordinator at alphaone@musc.edu, or call toll-free at 1-877-886-2383.
Kits may be requested through the
online consent form and
application available here.
We would recommend that you download a copy of the
consent form to
review before reading and signing the online consent.
